New features and functionality in DataSelf Analytics(DSA) release 8.1.1 include:::

Folders for the Data Panel

You can now create folders to help organize everything on the data panel. Field names, measures, dimensions, KPI's, etc can be arranged in folders. Our professional support staff are looking forward to this feature to help organize lists such as DSA's comprehensive set of reporting parameters and KPIs.

Copy content between workbooks

Copy worksheets, dashboards, and datasource links across different workbooks.

A new table calculation that makes ranking much easier.

64-bit Versions of Desktop and Server

Previous versions of DSA could only access a maximum of 4GB of RAM on your desktop computer, laptop or server. The new 64-bit versions take advantage of all your machine's available memory resulting in more speed and the ability to display larger data sets on a view.

64-bits is required for reports that display several million (4M+) data items or chart marks.(32-bit versions have long been able to process large data sets and display the results in summary form but were limited in the number of individual data points could be displayed on a chart.)

Field reports from beta users say the 64-bit versions seem to run faster.

Calendar Controls

Adds a familiar calendar user interface for selecting dates.

Dashboard transparency

The backgrounds of legends, text boxes, images and other dashboard objects can now be set to varying degrees of transparency.

This change supports dashboard designed to highlight the analysis and story you want to tell. For example, dashboards can now be designed that focus more on viewing information and less on the user-interface controls.

Quick filter formatting

Quick filters now have their own set of formatting options for fonts, borders and backgrounds. Quick filters can now be designed to better match the design of the dashboard.

Apply Button for Quick Filters

New Apply button makes using multiple value quick filters even quicker and easier. The filter will not activate until the Apply button is clicked.

Box-and-whisker plots

This common and useful statistical tool is now incorporated into the Show Me wizard. Other changes should make it easier to add box-and-wisker plots (box plots) to views.

Show Me evaluates the data fields you select and recommends several types of views that would be appropriate for those fields.

Forecasting Improvements

Forecasting improvements in 8.1 include prediction bands, new multiplicative models and the ability to use forecasting with fiscal years.

Prediction bands represent the uncertainty in the forecast estimate. The bands are wider for more uncertain forecasts and narrower for forecasts with higher certainty.

While not directly related to the changes in DSA for fiscal years we note that DataSelf professional services has also been innovating in using fiscal years in DSA. This work focused especially on helping business with fiscal years that do not begin with the calendar year.

Two Pass Totals

The aggregation level for your totals can be changed to be different than the aggregation of the measure.

For example, a view could display a total by year but show show the average over all years in place of a grand total.

Web authoring in Android App

Analyze your data with DSA on Android tablets and smart phones.

Presentation Mode

Focus more on viewing information and less on viewing user-interface controls in presentation mode. You can transition between dashboard view and presentation mode, and back again.

The improved presentation mode centers your current worksheet or dashboard on your display and changes the background to white, hiding almost all of the interface. You can still select different sheets and dashboards while in presentation mode.

Formattable Marks Card on Web Interface

Web editing getting closer to the experience on the Desktop client. All of the flexibility and analytical utility of the marks card is now available on the web.
